Our aim

Long Trails should be usable by everyone who wants to plan a walk, whatever device or assistive technology they use. We work towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.

What works today

  • Every page can be read and navigated with a keyboard.
  • Route pages state the distance, ascent and stages as text, not only on the map.
  • Photos published by us carry a text description.
  • Text can be resized with the browser; the page does not block zooming.

Known limitations

  • The interactive map itself is visual. Everything the map shows about a route or hut is also available as text on that route or hut page, but tracing a line on the map is not possible without sight or a pointer.
  • Some labels on map controls are still being improved for screen readers.
  • Elevation profiles are drawn as charts; the numbers behind them are in the stage list.

Tell us
